Department of Mathematics and Informatics

The primary task of the department is to teach the mathematics and informatics courses of School-teacher BSc Training. The aim of mathematics and informatics training is to prepare students with theoretically founded skills and abilities to teach mathematics and informatics for pupils in the first four grades in primary school and then after completing the appropriate education field to teach the selected education field (informatics or mathematics) for pupils in the first six grades in primary school. Furthermore, students are capable to perform education tasks outside classes related to mathematics and informatics and to develop their obtained professional abilities and to study new professional competences with the help of self-training and/or organized further education. Apart from obtaining the professional competencies in a narrow sense the special aim is to give the students the most important procedures and knowledge required by the school usage of information and communication technology. Research topics of the department: computational linguistics with special regard to the application of hypertext (primarily discourse analysis, cognitive linguistic and knowledge science) and the role of concordances in interpreting literature texts. Research is also carried out in the fields of mathematics didactics (e-learning, video-learning) and statistical and data mining analyses. The department has established cooperation programmes with research centres, primarily with the faculties of Arts and Informatics of the University of Debrecen.
