Department of Pedagogy and Psychology

The Department of Pedagogy and Psychology considers the transmission of fundamental human values, attitudes and the formation of personality characteristics and the foundation of intellectual life its primary task. The department is primarily involved in primary school teacher training but it also has education tasks in the religious training programmes of DRHE including KLM, cantor BA, undivided religion teacher training. The department is responsible for the youth supporting specialization of the higher education vocational training in social and youth work. The department has also significant tasks in the postgraduate specialist training courses for educators including development pedagogy, drama pedagogy, pedagogy specialist examination, etc. trainings. The most important subjects and courses taught by the department are the following: education history, didactics, social pedagogy, introduction to psychology, development psychology, pedagogy psychology, social psychology, differentiated development, applied pedagogy, group training, supporting discussion, talent management, museum pedagogy, etc. Preparation of the students for the classes, colloquiums and comprehensive examinations are helped by publications of the department. Practical application of the theoretical knowledge is supported by a fully equipped psychological laboratory. The most important research topics of the department are the following: values of reformed teachers’ training; artistic, theory of arts and artist supporting activities of the teachers of the Faculty of Arts, University of Debrecen; specifics of the occupation socialization of teachers; keeping contact between teachers and parents; impact mechanism of drama pedagogy. All colleagues of the department are members of either the Hungarian Psychological Association or the Hungarian Pedagogical Society. Some colleagues are also members of the Association of Kindergarten and Primary School Teacher Training Institutes, Hungarian Talent Management Society, Hungarian Drama and Theatre in Education Association, Comenius Society, National Association of Doctoral Students and the Hungarian Family Therapy Association. The education history contest that is generally organized for first level students by the department has a decade long tradition. The significant work of student research supervisors and their students is recognised by their national honours. The department competencies include the university level talent screening coordinated by the Scientific Student Research Council.
